I attended the SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and
Illustrators) Conference this past Saturday.
One of the many things I learned was how important a ‘Pitch’ is.
What is a Book Pitch and why in the world do I need to come
up with one?
Here’s how I answered myself: ENVISION THIS: Our TVs are
taken over by a commercial about a blockbuster action/adventure movie. The imposing
narrator’s cavernous voice demands our attention and draws us to the television,
listening to his ‘Pitch’.
Within seconds, either I will have to see the film or I am detested,
promising to never waste my time watching the movie.
Hmm…..
In conclusion: since I attended the conference I have in my nimble
fingers a ticket to send my manuscript to one of the publishers.
I am going to send my children’s book and need
to write a pitch to wow the publisher.
Let the work commence: Thank you Lord Jesus for wisdom,
fortitude and an outstanding Book Pitch.
Philippians 3:13-14 "Brothers
and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one
thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and
straining toward what is ahead,I press on toward the goal to win the prize for
which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
Thanks Karla for sharing. I was curious what you learned. Did they give you any definite examples or guidelines for presenting an excellent pitch? Do's and Don'ts?
