EDITING: THE HORRORS & THE HALLOWS
For the past 90 days I have dug deep
into the editing process for my children’s book. I have been pushing hard
because of a dead line.
It feels like I’m aboard a lone ship on a windless ocean, lying listlessly on the dry deck staring
up at a pale
blue sky of emptiness. My characters, with ferocious faces, impatiently wait
for me to speak for them.
As I trudge through the same unfitting paragraph over and over; the
appropriate words still refuse to flow off my tongue.
My mind is parched
and sunburned.
Then fitting words that seem to come out of nowhere bring a fresh
breeze to my book, like frisky winds billowing a ship’s sails into fluffy
clouds.
Now my ship skims across the frothy water toward a yellow sliver
of light dawning on the ocean of understanding.
I am free.
